The massive discounts on Ubisoft games on Steam this week feel like a fire sale. The company’s stock plunged on January 22 after its latest botched attempt at restructuring, and shares remain at the same level as that crash, leaving Ubisoft worth less than a twentieth of its 2018 value.

For players, the sale is generous: games less than two years old are up to 90 percent off, and top-notch classics have similar discounts. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently $35, half price; you play as both a stealthy shinobi assassin and a formidable samurai, blending parkour, stealth and more overt action in one of the most spectacularly pretty games ever made, and it received another raft of improvements last fall.
