U.K. Police Weigh Formal Investigation of Andrew Over Epstein Files
Thames Valley Police said they had spoken with the Crown Prosecution Service as they consider whether to open a formal investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor over allegations he shared confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a British trade envoy.
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said the discussions form part of an assessment and specifically relate to documents within the United States Department of Justice’s Epstein Files. Wright cautioned that an assessment does not mean a criminal investigation will follow, noting that allegations of misconduct in public office involve particular complexities and require careful scrutiny.
Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor’s links to Mr. Epstein have been public for years and led to him being stripped of his royal titles last year, but fresh revelations emerged after a new tranche of files was released on Jan. 30. Buckingham Palace said it would assist if approached by police and that the king had expressed profound concern at the allegations.
