Ukraine says US and allies filed 11 requests for help with Shaheds
Ukraine says it has received 11 foreign requests for help countering Iran's Shahed drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there is interest in Ukraine's experience protecting civilians, in interceptors, electronic-warfare systems, and training. It is unclear whether the figure represents 11 different countries or multiple requests from the same nations.
The Pentagon says Iran has launched more than 2,000 of the inexpensive attack drones at neighbors and US forces since strikes began, and Ukraine says Russia has fired about 57,000 Shaheds at Ukraine since February 2022. Kyiv faces hundreds of these loitering munitions at a time and points out that Shaheds cost an estimated $20,000 to $50,000, while traditional anti-air missiles can cost around $250,000 each.
To cope, Ukraine has surged electronic warfare, deployed mobile ground crews with truck-mounted machine guns, and built interceptor drones meant to ram Shaheds.
