Union asks SEC to probe Apollo over 'misleading' Epstein disclosures
The American Federation of Teachers, which represents 1.8 million members and whose members have billions in pension money invested with Apollo, asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate Apollo Global Management's past statements about its ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
In a letter to the SEC's head of enforcement, the union accused the firm of making "misleading" claims about its exposure to the convicted sex offender. In 2021 Apollo had said its Epstein risk was largely limited to cofounder Leon Black, who stepped down as CEO after a law firm hired by Apollo found he paid Epstein millions over the years for financial advice.
