Universes Beyond is hurting Magic’s draft — remove the legend rule
Commander may be the most popular way to play Magic: The Gathering, but drafting remains the favorite for booster-pack buyers. Nothing beats opening a few packs, building a deck for a quick tournament, and leaving with cards to use in commander; drafting also levels the playing field because you can’t simply outspend opponents.
Some creatures in Magic are designated legendary, meaning they represent a specific character rather than a whole class, and they often appear rarer or more powerful. The legend rule governs them: If two or more legendary permanents with the same name are controlled by the same player, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards.
That rule prevents playing two of the same legendary or creating an unrestricted copy unless a loophole exists. Universes Beyond crossover sets have shifted the balance by packing many legendaries into a single product.
