University of British Columbia Professors Sue School Over Political Correctness — NYT > World > Americas

A group of professors at the University of British Columbia has sued the school, arguing that D.E.I. policies and practices — including land acknowledgments — violate the University Act’s requirement that universities be “nonpolitical.” The suit, filed last spring and now before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, cites examples such as job candidates being asked how they would advance “decolonization,” a video suggesting meetings begin with identifying oneself as a “settler,” and a claim that a political scientist was told to teach game theory “from an Indigenous perspective.” The plaintiffs say those and other measures have created a campus climate that punishes contrarian ideas and pressures academics to endorse progressive positions.

They ask the court to bar actions such as requiring job applicants to commit to diversity principles and mandating land acknowledgments.
