Polygon reports that Bowen "Monsoon" Fuller and his unsigned team Oblivion unexpectedly won the Apex Legends Global Series Year 5 Championship in Sapporo, Japan, and Fuller’s first celebration was to put on a Japanese maid costume.

Oblivion beat Philip "ImperialHal" Dosen's Team Falcons in the ninth and final match after Falcons had been favored and led through the first three days. The victory marked the first ALGS championship won by a female‑coached team — coach RubyKaster — and the first time a team that qualified via the Last‑Chance Qualifiers went on to win. The crowd of nearly 15,000 at the Sapporo Dome reacted loudly, and as an orgless squad Oblivion will keep the full $600,000 prize themselves.

Fuller, who has competed in Apex Legends since 2019 and has spoken about experiencing homelessness and using restaurant wi‑fi to play, called the title a validation for the team. Oblivion are still looking for a new organization, Fuller said he planned to celebrate with alcohol, and he estimated the championship trophy is "probably 35, 40 pounds" and will sit on a shelf above the fireplace in his apartment.
