Nytimes reports that Iran and the United States will meet for a new round of negotiations on Friday in Oman. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, was expected to hold a face-to-face meeting with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the White House confirmed, and Mr.

Araghchi announced on social media that the talks would take place in Muscat. The meeting would be the first talks since the 12-day war in June with Israel that culminated in American fighter jets bombing and severely damaging Iran’s three main nuclear facilities, effectively halting its nuclear program.

Regional countries have been mediating for days to avert a wider war, and Mr. Araghchi and Mr. Witkoff have maintained intermittent direct contact by text. Talks were initially scheduled for Istanbul with broader regional participation, but Iran requested a last-minute change to Oman and to limit attendees to U.S.
