US Army drone school wants modular, easily upgraded gear
Leaders at the Army's new Unmanned Advanced Lethality Course say rapid changes in drone warfare require systems that can evolve as fast as tactics do. They want plug‑and‑play equipment that soldiers can adapt for many missions rather than fixed, single‑purpose designs.
Maj. Wolf Amacker said he favors companies that build interoperable systems: "if whatever they're building isn't modular with other industry partners to work together, then I'm going to go with another industry partner that is." He gave the example of a single arming tool that works across multiple drone types and described modularity as hardware and software that can be swapped or upgraded without replacing an entire system.
