US Central Command outlines combat systems used in first day of Iran strikes
US Central Command released a breakdown of the forces used in the first 24 hours of strikes on Iran during Operation Epic Fury. The opening day included B-2 Spirit bombers armed with 2,000-pound bombs, destroyer-launched Tomahawks, and American-made drones modeled after Iranian Shaheds — described as "American-made retribution" — as forces struck over 1,000 targets.
The command noted the operation also included "special capabilities we can't list." The list of aircraft ranged from stealth B-2s and fifth-generation fighters such as the F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor to attack aircraft and fourth-generation fighters, along with electronic attack planes, airborne early warning and control aircraft, surveillance platforms, and logistics aircraft for airlift and refueling.
Airborne early warning aircraft can detect and track targets and pass that information in real time to fighters like the F-22 and F/A-18.
