US mounts largest Middle East military buildup since 2003
The US is mounting its largest military buildup in the Middle East since 2003 as the Trump administration pressures Iran to strike a deal that would limit its nuclear and military capabilities.
At least a dozen warships, collectively worth an estimated $50 billion, have been deployed to the region. Satellite imagery shows the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea, and a second carrier strike group led by the USS Gerald R. Ford is on the way.
The deployment also includes a variety of military aircraft and missile-defense systems positioned across the theater.
