Many users are moving to Claude after controversies over ChatGPT and its parent company. The shift accelerated when Anthropic refused to let the Department of Defense use its models for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. President Trump then ordered federal agencies to stop using Anthropic’s products, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced plans to label the company a supply‑chain threat.

OpenAI later announced its own agreement with the Pentagon, a deal that has renewed debate over privacy and the ethical use of AI. Claude climbed to the top of the free app rankings in Apple’s U.S. App Store as sign‑ups surged. Anthropic says daily sign‑ups hit record highs, free users have jumped by more than 60% since January, and paid subscribers have more than doubled this year.

For many people, the recent controversy has made Claude a compelling alternative to ChatGPT. If you want to move your data, start in ChatGPT’s Settings.
