Users report MSI's yellow-tipped GPU power cables creeping out of place
GPU meltgate has returned with a new twist: MSI’s yellow-tipped 12V-2x6 power cables, designed to show when a connector isn’t fully seated, are reportedly creeping out of place over time and exposing graphics cards to increased risk. MSI introduced the yellow tips to make it obvious when a cable wasn’t fully inserted.
In practice, though, users have posted images showing the yellow portion clearly visible after the connector has backed out. One Redditor, backed by others with the same experience, says connectors start fully seated with no yellow showing but slowly slide out on their own; pushing them back in only for the same thing to recur.
Some examples collected online are strikingly clear that the plugs are no longer fully plugged in. It’s an ironic vindication of the yellow-tip idea: it does reveal a loose connection, but it was supposed to be a one-time check rather than an ongoing fix.
