Nostalgia can be misleading. Razer’s 20th Anniversary Boomslang, a limited edition $1,337 mouse, leans hard into that feeling—even though the original Boomslang was created by kärna LLC in 1999 and Razer as we know it arrived later. The result feels old rather than celebrated.

Under the shell Razer has packed modern hardware: a 45K optical sensor, 8K wireless tech, optical switches, wireless charging and even PU leather trim. The exterior, however, is decidedly 1999, from the semi‑transparent green plastic to the faux leather, and it shows.

The ergonomics are the main issue. Late‑’90s mice largely assumed a palm grip and frequently forced awkward hand and finger positions; the Boomslang requires uncomfortable contortions to reach side buttons and cripples speed for claw‑grip users. That history explains why the writer avoided Razer for so long until the Mamba wireless arrived.
