USMNT World Cup 2026 kits: inside the design process
The USMNT reflected a wide variety of personalities and tastes during the kit process. Some players dove into the design work, others were content to wait for the finished product, but everyone was consulted in waves. There were three major moments in the process, with a fourth coming this fall when the final kits are unveiled to the players, and the international camp schedule meant dozens of players ultimately had their voices heard.
From the start the message was clear: players wanted something memorable and unique. Balogun said he wanted a jersey that, when gifted to friends and family, would excite them and feel distinct; as one of the host nations there was a big emphasis on making sure it stood out.
The process began with hundreds of potential kits, whittled down so Nike could present just a few. Early on players saw art and mock-ups and repeatedly sent designers back with feedback on technical, design and emotional expectations.
