Dummy RAM kits normally pair a functioning DIMM with a blank shell that matches the working module—often with RGB—purely for looks. V-color has taken that idea further with 1+1 value packs that bundle a single DDR5 DIMM alongside a matching dummy DIMM. The result is a single-channel memory kit that appears to occupy both channels visually.

V-color frames the packs as a way for builders to start with one module, lower their upfront cost, and upgrade later with a second memory module when needed. Most consumer processors offer two memory channels spread across motherboard DIMM slots, so a single DDR5 stick only uses one channel and can reduce performance on memory-heavy tasks.

Buying one stick now and adding a matching DIMM later is a common approach, though it can sometimes cause instability with XMP/EXPO because of slight variances between DIMMs. Some users instead choose DDR4 and older chipsets to save money — for example, 32 GB of DDR4 can be found for just over $200 — but that limits processor choice.
