Twenty years after its 2006 release, V for Vendetta is now available to stream on HBO Max. The film stars Hugo Weaving as the masked vigilante V and Natalie Portman as Evey Hammond, and unfolds in a near-future England where a fascist regime has seized control.

Directed by James McTeigue and written by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the movie runs 132 minutes and was released on February 23, 2006. Producers on the project include Grant Hill, Joel Silver, Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski and Lorne Orleans.

The character of V originated in the late-1980s limited series from DC’s Vertigo imprint, created by Alan Moore, David Lloyd and Tony Weare, and is known for the long black cape and Guy Fawkes mask. The film, which centers on V’s plan to spark a revolution after rescuing Evey, can be streamed now on HBO Max.
