Van Halen is marking the 40th anniversary of 5150 with a remastered edition that includes previously unreleased live recordings and rarities. The album was the band's seventh and the first with Sammy Hagar, ushering in the "Van Hagar" era after the departure of David Lee Roth.

Originally released on March 24, 1986, 5150 became the group's first album to top the Billboard album chart. It leaned toward a more mainstream sound with ballads such as "Love Walks In," "Dreams" and "Why Can’t This Be Love," alongside harder-rocking tracks like "Good Enough," "Best of Both Worlds" and "Summer Nights." It was also the first Van Halen album without an instrumental track.

The late Eddie Van Halen’s guitar work remained central to the record, and the band continued to use keyboards and synthesizers.
