Verizon is offering a free iPhone 17 Pro Max to new customers who sign up for its Unlimited Ultimate phone plan, according to ZDNET.

The promotion applies only to the 256GB model of the 17 Pro Max. The phone includes features ZDNET highlights such as a 39-hour battery life, Super Retina XDR display and a 48MP Fusion camera system, and is available in Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue or Silver.

To qualify, new customers must enroll in the Unlimited Ultimate plan, which ZDNET says starts at $50 per month and includes 5G LTE calling, unlimited mobile hotspot data and international calling. Customers can lock in a three-year price guarantee; after paying a $40 activation fee, the phone’s retail price is credited to the account over 36 months. ZDNET notes that existing Verizon customers are not eligible and that cancelling or changing the phone plan will make the remaining retail balance due.

ZDNET gave the deal a 5/5 Editor's rating and cautioned that offers can sell out or expire; its team regularly checks deals and looks for replacements if a promotion is no longer available.
