Victor Font says Lionel Messi's 'last dance is possible'
Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has said he wants to bring Lionel Messi back to the club to give him a proper farewell. Messi left Camp Nou in 2021 after the club could not agree a new contract because of financial constraints, later joining Paris Saint-Germain and now playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.
Font argued that reconciliation with Messi “will never happen with [Joan] Laporta” and insisted: “If we win the elections, Messi’s last dance is possible.” He described Messi as a role model on and off the pitch and said the forward had been twice disappointed — in 2021 and again in 2023 when plans to return under Xavi Hernández were blocked.
Font added that Messi “cannot end his time with Barca with a farewell in a closed room” and that any on-field goodbye would depend on Messi’s wishes and his situation at the end of 2026; he also said it would require Laporta no longer to be in power after March 16.
