Victor Font warns he would remove Deco if elected Barcelona president
Victor Font has warned Barcelona sporting director Deco that he would remove him from the role if Font wins the club's upcoming presidential election, while saying he wants Hansi Flick to remain as first‑team coach. Barcelona are preparing for elections next month, with Joan Laporta set to run for re‑election and challengers including Font, Marc Ciria, Xavier Vilajoana and Joan Camprubi.
Laporta, elected for a second time in 2021 with 54% of the vote, has said he believes the project he leads deserves to continue after what he called a year of recovery for the club. Font told RAC1 he would keep Flick but not Deco, and wants the club’s structure adapted to suit the coach.
He also criticised the influence of figures outside official roles and said he has been in contact with Lionel Messi’s inner circle as part of a plan to rebuild bridges, adding he would not use Messi to sway members and suggesting the forward would not return under Laporta.
