Videos show Minneapolis ICU nurse held phone, not gun, when federal officers shot him
Witness footage appears to show ICU nurse Alex Pretti holding a phone, not a gun, when he was fatally shot by federal officers in Minneapolis on Jan. 24, People reported. DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said at around 9 a.m. that officers were conducting a targeted operation against “an illegal alien wanted for violent assault,” and the agency posted on X that an individual “approached U.S.
Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun” and “violently resisted,” prompting an agent to “fire defensive shots.” Footage verified by The New York Times appears to contradict that account: Pretti is seen with both hands visible and a phone in one hand while an agent peppersprays the group, several agents then approach and pin him on the sidewalk, and he does not seem to be holding or pulling a weapon.
The Times reported that a gun appeared to have been unholstered by an agent before Pretti was shot and that he sustained at least 10 gunshots fired within five seconds.
