Villains Don't Get Scarier Than in Taron Egerton's Black Bird
Taron Egerton has built a reputation for versatility, and the six-part Apple TV miniseries Black Bird arguably delivers his greatest performance — even better than his role in Rocketman — and can be binged in a single sitting. The show is based on the novel In with the Devil: A Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption and was created by Dennis Lehane.
Black Bird follows Jimmy Keene, a former football player who turns to drug dealing after an injury and is eventually caught and imprisoned. Facing a longer sentence than he expected, Keene accepts an FBI offer: reduced time and a clean record in exchange for transferring to a maximum-security prison to befriend a suspect.
That suspect, Larry Hall, has been linked to multiple murders but never confessed to the locations of the bodies. Keene’s warm personality makes it easy for him to bond with Hall, and at first he doubts Hall could be involved. As their relationship deepens, however, Keene discovers the soft-spoken man may hide something far darker.
