According to Goal, Vinicius Junior scored an amazing solo goal for Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España final against Barcelona, snapping a long barren spell after he had not scored since October 10 heading into the Saudi showpiece.

Barcelona took the lead in the 36th minute through a low strike from Raphinha, only for Vinicius to level ten minutes later with a run from the left in which he nutmegged Jules Kounde, beat two more defenders and slid the ball into the far corner. The sides had shared four goals in a frenetic first 45 minutes: Robert Lewandowski restored Barcelona's lead moments after the restart before Gonzalo Garcia bundled home to make it 2-2 at the interval.

Barcelona clinched the Super Cup for a second successive year when Raphinha struck again in the 73rd minute with the aid of a deflection to make it 3-2. Vinicius ended a 16-game drought in the final third and has six goals and eight assists in 27 appearances this season; questions have been asked over his future amid reported tension with head coach Xabi Alonso. Real now face a Copa del Rey round of 16 trip to Albacete on January 14, with their La Liga campaign resuming three days later as they try to close the four-point gap to Barcelona at the top after 19 games.
