Vitalik Buterin Proposes Crypto-Driven Political Reform for Russia-Ukraine War
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin condemned Russia’s invasion as "criminal aggression" and suggested applying crypto-inspired governance principles to reshape the country’s politics. His remarks, published ahead of the fourth anniversary of the invasion on February 24, 2026, linked blockchain concepts to the long-term security of Europe and Ukraine.
Buterin rejected narratives that treat the conflict as morally ambiguous, contrasting Ukraine’s institutional improvements with Russia’s growing repression and military aggression. He wrote, "Ukraine needs a lot of help — to continue defending itself and to minimize human suffering from attacks on residential buildings, the energy system, etc.," and urged sustained international support to protect civilians and preserve Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
He also criticized Western accounts that downplay Russian responsibility and argued Moscow currently lacks incentive to pursue peace, saying only continued military and economic pressure could compel meaningful negotiations.
