Voice Actors on Finding the Voices Behind Sentenced to Be a Hero
Sentenced to Be a Hero quickly climbed streaming charts after its release, drawing attention for its dynamic animation, compelling characters and world-building. Emi Lo voices the goddess Teoritta, and Dawn M. Bennett plays Patausche Kivia, captain of the Thirteenth Order of the Holy Knights; both spoke about how they found the right vocal approaches for their roles.
They described a careful balance between authority and warmth. Bennett said Kivia’s tone shifts depending on who she’s addressing—troops, her uncle or Xylo—so the performance must stay firm while leaving room for humanity. Lo leaned on a dignified, princesslike haughtiness to shape Teoritta’s goddess facade.
Both actors emphasized emotional grounding as essential: they put themselves in the characters’ positions and “leave who you are outside” when they enter the booth. Bennett recalled intense, shouted exchanges with David Matranga that called for matching energy, while Lo had to temper Teoritta’s spunk to hold the same level as Xylo’s calm without sounding flat.
