Wall Street's young bankers roasted over glossy spread
A glossy Interview magazine profile of four junior Wall Street employees in designer clothes has gone viral, spawning memes and debate. The spread photographed four young finance workers — including 23-year-old Demarre Johnson, a PricewaterhouseCoopers data and AI consultant — alongside interviews about work hours, expensive purchases, and pieces of financial advice.
The feature ran afoul of Wall Street norms, where juniors typically avoid appearing flashier than senior colleagues. Johnson said he was approached because of his TikTok presence and that, at the shoot, he could choose from brands such as Loro Piana, Prada, Celine, and Dior, and wore Rolex and Hugo Boss watches.
He said he owns vintage pants, Ralph Lauren, Vineyard Vines, and six vests. Expecting a strong reaction because "controversy sells," his Instagram following rose to 6,265; coworkers found it funny, friends in finance circulated the article in group chats, and he posted about the coverage on TikTok, joking "I'm viral on twitter" with four crying emojis.
