Walmart AI chief says Google Gemini enables more seamless agentic shopping than ChatGPT

Businessinsider reports that Walmart's head of AI, Daniel Danker, said at the ICR Conference in Orlando that Google Gemini's agentic shopping creates a more seamless transaction flow than ChatGPT's shopping integrations. Danker said Gemini's agent partners with Walmart's AI agent to create a unified shopping journey, "Imagine it like a window inside of Gemini where our shopping agent kicks in and helps you complete that purchase," and that Google has created standards to let different companies' AI agents interact.

He said Walmart can link a customer's chat session with their existing Walmart profile and shopping sessions where Gemini wasn't involved, and that the Walmart+ member experience shows up directly within Gemini. For example, he said a cleaning product could be added to an existing cart and delivered in one combined shipment after a user asks Gemini for stain-removal tips on a specific carpet.

Danker said working with both ChatGPT and Gemini sets Walmart up to win in AI, and he expects agentic shopping to capture more sales from people who didn't set out to buy. "The most important currency in an agentic shopping world is actually trust and affordability," he said, adding that Walmart's selection, low prices, and fast fulfillment help it appear more frequently in Gemini and ChatGPT recommendations.
