Walton Goggins and Tarantino's Django Unchained Arrives on Peacock
After a tremendous box office run in 2012 and hopping between various streaming platforms over the past decade, Django Unchained has landed on Peacock. The film, directed by Quentin Tarantino, features Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio, and is often considered one of Tarantino's best — it is also his highest-grossing film, earning over $425 million worldwide.
Jamie Foxx stars as Django, who, after years of slavery, is purchased by the enigmatic "dentist," Dr. King Schultz (Waltz). Django becomes a bounty hunter and uses his newfound freedom to rescue his wife from the vile slave owner Calvin J. Candie (DiCaprio). Walton Goggins appears as Billy Crash, a cruel plantation worker who takes too much pleasure in his job.
Stylistically, the film is a love-letter to classic westerns, pairing hyper-violent shootouts with a traditional western veneer; the opening scene immediately shows the brutality to come when Dr. Schultz viciously dispatches two slavers to get Django.
