Warframe players receive 'nefarious' in-game invites

Players of Warframe report receiving bizarre in-game messages, sometimes containing explicit language or threats. Fans have shared concerned posts on the Warframe subreddit, and some suspect the multiplayer shooter may have been hacked. Several messages reportedly include ableist slurs or incomprehensible drivel.

A few referenced the community preservation project OpenWF; representatives on Discord disavowed the spam and said they are not involved, noting they do not have access to the game’s source code. Developer Digital Extremes has told players not to accept these “nefarious invites” and asked that any such messages be reported to the studio’s support channels while it works to shut down the issue.

Update: Digital Extremes posted on the Warframe forums saying no accounts have been compromised.
