Warnings for snow, ice, wind and rain remain in place across the UK after Storm Goretti, Independent.co reports. The storm earlier brought gusts of almost 100mph and prompted a rare red warning for “dangerous, stormy” winds in the South West. Police said a man in his 50s was found dead in a caravan after a tree fell on to the vehicle in Helston, Cornwall.

Thousands of properties were still without power on Saturday evening, according to the National Grid’s website, and National Rail warned disruption to train travel is possible until Monday. Met Office alerts include an amber snow warning until 2pm for Aberdeenshire, Moray, Central Tayside and Fife and Highland, with 2-5cm likely at low levels and up to 30cm above 300m and possible blizzard conditions.

A yellow snow-and-ice warning covers much of Scotland, the East and West Midlands, north-east and north-west England and Yorkshire until 3pm, with 2-5cm likely and 10-20cm possible above 200m. Yellow rain warnings cover parts of south-west Scotland, Lothian Border and Strathclyde until the end of Sunday, and north-eastern Scotland until 10am on Monday where up to 110mm is possible on parts of Skye, Lochaber, Argyll and the Trossachs; Northern Ireland faces up to 60mm on higher ground until 9pm.
