The Washington Post is reversing course on its Winter Olympics plans and now expects to send four journalists to the Games in Italy, a spokeswoman confirmed.

The paper had originally planned to send more than a dozen reporters, but employees were told in a terse email on Friday — less than three weeks before the Olympics begin — that none would go. The change was reported by three people with knowledge of the decision and prompted objections on social media; Christine Brennan wrote on X that it was "a stunning and awful development." Staff said they were surprised because flights had already been booked and The Post had already spent roughly $80,000 for lodging.

The report does not specify why the paper reversed its earlier decision, and it is unclear whether the small contingent will alter the Post's overall coverage of the Winter Games.
