Brentford lost 2-0 to Brighton on Saturday, with goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck securing the Seagulls' first win since the start of January. The result ended Brentford's strong run and denied them the chance to move above Liverpool in the table. Brentford had taken 20 points from their previous 10 matches, the most of any side in the Premier League, but Brighton were 2-0 up by the break.

Gomez opened the scoring after Ferdi Kadioglu's effort had struck the woodwork, and Welbeck added the second when Nathan Collins — who had just come on for the injured Aaron Hickey — made a hash of a clearance. Manager Keith Andrews downplayed the defeat, pointing to his team's recent form and insisting one poor display would not define them.

He said: "I thought first half we didn't reach the levels we have done pretty consistently. We have been performing at a high level and today we didn't do that. Second half was a big improvement. We showed a lot in the second half.
