We live in Spain for two months — and it's cheaper than Disney
A family began taking two-month stays in Spain to reconnect with their Spanish heritage after a 2018 road trip through the mountains that brought them close to relatives they hadn’t known. Over the past three years they’ve taken repeated two-month trips with their two toddlers, treating the stays as living abroad rather than short vacations.
Long-term travel once felt impractical — a 45-minute meltdown at Miami International Airport made them wonder if they would ever fly again. They learned small tricks, like inflatable plane beds, toys, and snacks, and discovered that booking longer Airbnb stays, collecting airline miles, and using public transportation made extended trips affordable.
For them, a two-month stay in central parts of major Spanish cities ranged from about $4,220 to $4,900, compared with a typical week at Disney for a family of four, which can cost $6,000 to $10,000.
