Weah: Anyone who walks off the pitch is a loser
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has stripped Senegal of the Africa Cup of Nations title and awarded the trophy to Morocco in a ruling issued on the evening of Tuesday 17th. The result was recorded as a 3-0 win in favour of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, with the decision handing the trophy to Hakimi's national team.
The ruling followed a late protest by the Senegalese team. Players first complained about a penalty that was not awarded and then reacted angrily when VAR awarded a penalty to Morocco for a similar incident.
Former Liberian striker George Weah said: "The Africa Cup of Nations final? If you want the truth, anyone who leaves the pitch is considered a loser; the rule is clear. That's not how football is played, so congratulations to Morocco on winning the title – they defended their right to win it."
