Week Wraps with Health Research and Spacewalk Closeout Procedures
Health research and final spacewalk closeouts wrapped up the week for the Expedition 74 crew aboard the International Space Station as they prepared to receive a cargo delivery next week. To understand how the human body reacts to space, residents collected biological samples for ground teams; Jack Hathaway and Jessica Meir collected and analyzed blood for the Venous Flow experiment, then Hathaway guided an ultrasound scan of Meir’s cardiovascular system.
The pair were later joined by Chris Williams and European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot to review future spacewalk procedures and to debrief following Wednesday’s seven-hour, two-minute excursion. Williams powered on the station’s free-flying robots, Astrobee, and worked on spacesuit battery charging and configuration for stowage.
Adenot removed impact shields from the suits, inspected hatch seals and swapped computer batteries, among other tasks.
