Goal reports that West Ham United players would have their wages halved if the club are relegated to the Championship at the end of this season. The Athletic says many contracts include a 50 percent reduction in pay on relegation, and a source has claimed those clauses are making it harder for West Ham to land top January targets.

The Hammers are 18th in the Premier League and seven points from safety after a difficult first half of the 2025-26 campaign; they have signed Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos and are linked with centre-backs such as Charlie Cresswell and Eric Dier. Captain Jarrod Bowen is believed to earn around £150,000 a week under a contract running to 2030 that he signed in 2023, and is said to have married Dani Dyer in 2025.

Lucas Paqueta is thought to earn slightly less than Bowen and is reportedly seeking a January move back to Brazil with Flamengo, who are ready to pay £35 million, though West Ham would prefer he stay until the end of the season. Nuno Espirito Santo, who replaced Graham Potter in September, has won only two Premier League matches since taking charge and is facing calls to be sacked, with reports the hierarchy were angry after he exchanged pleasantries with former Nottingham Forest players following a 2-1 defeat.
