What Happens at Night: First Look at Jennifer Lawrence & Leonardo DiCaprio

Apple released the first still from What Happens at Night, showing Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio standing outside a car in the snowy countryside. The film marks Lawrence's first collaboration with Martin Scorsese and reunites DiCaprio with a long-time creative partner.

The cast also includes Jared Harris, Mads Mikkelsen and Patricia Clarkson. Described as a psychological horror thriller, What Happens at Night is adapted from Peter Cameron's novel about a couple who travels to Europe to adopt a child. Scorsese has returned to thriller territory before with films such as Shutter Island, and his interest in psychological horror stretches back to the Val Lewton productions he grew up admiring.

Scorsese routinely brings film history into his work. DiCaprio told Lawrence to be ready for many "film references," noting they can involve watching DVDs or whole films for specific sequences and that the production might view Japanese ghost films to get the tone right.
