Where to find cobalt ore in Hytale

Pcgamer reports that cobalt ore appears in Hytale’s Howling Sands desert (zone two) and the Whisperfrost Frontiers snow region (zone three). You must trek across Orbis to reach these areas, and cobalt is not located simply by digging deeper like in some other games.

Cobalt can spawn exposed on the surface and underground, and abandoned mineshafts—marked by large wooden structures and a central shaft leading to tunnels—are good sources of ore. The mineshafts become visible on your map when you’re nearby, and you can also find cobalt ore and smelted ingots in chests around the overworld. Cobalt’s blue colour makes it easier to spot in the Howling Sands, while the Whisperfrost Frontiers also hosts Outlanders that drop the shadoweave scraps required to craft cobalt gear. Some players use the Lucky Mining mod, which can cause ore to spread to adjacent blocks if you maintain a mining streak.

Cobalt is used for weapons, armour, and tools: crafting a full armour set requires 62 cobalt, and individual tools or weapons need seven to 14 ingots each. It is a progression metal before adamantite and is also required for the first backpack upgrade alongside cindercloth scraps and heavy leather.
