Where to find rods for Cutthroat Competition in Marathon

Cutthroat Competition is Traxus' first priority contract in Marathon after signing up with them in Introducing: Traxus. The task sounds simple—grab two rod salvage items from a specific location—but the area is a hot zone for PvP and PvE, making it difficult to find a moment to hunt for the quest items.

You must find and extract two rod salvage items of any quality from Dire Marsh's Maintenance area in the southwest of the map. Specifically, look for Deimosite Rods, Cetinite Rods, and Ballistic Turbines; they generally appear on boxes, tables, shelves, or inside Arms Lockers and other containers.

Search the rooms and corridors in the basement of Maintenance first, since rods often appear on the tables and shelves down here and there won't be any UESC robots. The writer struck RNG gold and found three Deimosite Rods on the lower level, which was enough to finish the quest.
