White House uses Call of Duty killstreak in video of strikes on Iran
On March 4 the official White House Twitter account posted a roughly one-minute video that intercut footage of real military strikes on Iranian locations. At the very start of the video is a clip from 2023’s Modern Warfare III showing a player activating an MGB killstreak — a hidden reward for getting 30 kills without dying that ends the match.
The post carried the caption: “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue.” The inclusion of a Call of Duty killstreak comes as strikes have killed hundreds of civilians, including many children who died on the first day after a missile hit Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school on February 28.
Neither the United States nor Israel has taken responsibility for that attack. “All that I know is that we’re investigating that,” said Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “Of course, we never target civilians, but we’re taking a look at investigating that.” Observers note this is the latest example of the Trump administration using gamer memes and culture in official content.
