White House officials have suggested that the National Portrait Gallery create a section to display multiple images of President Trump in addition to his official portrait. The idea surfaced during a Dec. 19 tour of the museum that included Abby Jones, the acting chief of protocol, and the White House photographer Daniel Torok.

The Smithsonian recently changed the president’s portrait in the gallery to a Torok photograph. A spokeswoman for the Portrait Gallery declined to comment, and it was unclear to what extent the proposal remains under consideration; the Smithsonian had not received a formal proposal.

The White House declined to discuss the talks but issued a statement saying, "President Trump receives an unprecedented amount of beautiful artwork from patriotic Americans all across our great country, and it is important to the People’s President that their creations are showcased throughout the halls of our Nation’s Capital."
