Independent.co reports a White House website launched by Donald Trump’s administration on the fifth anniversary of the Capitol attack cements the president’s false narrative about the 2020 election, amplifies a baseless “FBI entrapment” theory and downplays the assault on Congress, the site says.

The website blames law enforcement for “deliberately escalating tensions,” says Democratic leadership — not then-President Trump or administration officials — failed to secure the Capitol, and accuses then-Vice President Mike Pence of acting “in an act of cowardice and sabotage,” according to its text, which also states a “stolen election was certified.” The site was launched as dozens of rioters returned to Washington, D.C., five years after the attack and nearly one year after Trump granted sweeping pardons for virtually all of them; among those pardoned was former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who had been convicted of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to 22 years in prison.

More than 1,000 defendants pleaded guilty to charges connected to the attack and more than 200 others were found guilty at trial, including 10 defendants convicted of treason-related charges including seditious conspiracy. Pardoned participants marched in Washington, held banners reading “J6 WAS A SETUP” and “ARREST PELOSI,” and demanded impeachments and firings of officials involved in prosecutions, the report says.
