Who is Sergej Levak, Atalanta’s 'little Milinkovic-Savic'?
Sergej Levak joined Atalanta on a free transfer after leaving Roma and has been added to the club’s Under-23s. The Croatian midfielder, born in 2006, was signed to receive regular playing time in Serie C.
He has become a key player in Salvatore Bocchetti’s side and earned a call-up from Palladino for the match against Udinese. After Dominic Vavassori, who has eight goals, Levak is the top scorer in the league with seven goals; no other midfielder in Group C has scored as many.
Levak operates as a central midfielder in Atalanta’s Under-23 3-4-2-1 formation. Right-footed and 195 cm tall, he can drop back to a defensive midfield role or be deployed further forward in the attacking third.
He has similar characteristics to former Lazio player Milinkovic-Savic: he is a strong tackler with excellent timing when breaking into the attack. In Rome he was considered one of the youth system’s best prospects, but no financial agreement could be reached regarding his contract renewal.
