Why Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill’s WWII Film Found Its Home on Streaming
Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill can take some consolation from the post-release life of their most recent collaboration. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare underperformed in theaters, failing to recoup its reported budget and not launching a franchise in the way some of Ritchie's earlier films have.
The World War II–era action picture, inspired by a true espionage story, opened in theaters in 2024 and grossed less than $30 million worldwide against a reported $60 million budget. Co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, it drew mixed-to-positive notices and sits at a 68% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, while its 91% "Verified Hot" audience score has been a major factor in its ongoing popularity.
FlixPatrol shows the film has spent 170 days on the domestic streaming charts and recently enjoyed a resurgence on Starz. The cast includes Cavill alongside Alan Ritchson, Eiza González, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding and Hero Fiennes Tiffin; Ritchie and Cavill's earlier pairing on The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
