Jamie Lee Curtis believed 2003’s “Freaky Friday” would be a nice coda to her career — she thought it was winding down because she was in her 40s, had gray hair and was “a little chubby.” Little did she know that exactly twenty years later she would win an Oscar in 2023 for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Now 67, Curtis says things changed when she took the reins.

Curtis said that until recently she was not in charge of creating her own work and was at the mercy of others hiring her. Reprising Laurie Strode in 2018’s horror sequel “Halloween” gave her a platform to create a business and be her own boss, a move she credits with revitalizing her career.

Having grown up in the business left her wary; her parents, she said, were more famous than she will ever be, and the industry rejected them at a certain point.
