Why Jaylen Brown Was Ejected From Celtics vs. Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs beat the Boston Celtics 125-116 in NBA on NBC’s Coast 2 Coast Tuesday primetime game, but the most striking moment came in the second quarter when Celtics guard Jaylen Brown was ejected after receiving two straight technical fouls. The matchup featured two of the league’s top four teams this season; the Spurs sit at 48-17 while the Celtics are 43-22.
Before his ejection, Brown had eight points, two rebounds, seven assists and one steal in 13 minutes. Brown argued he had been fouled by Spurs point guard Stephon Castle after tight defensive coverage caused him to stumble out of bounds and turn the ball over; no foul was called.
He continued disputing the play with official Tyler Ford and was assessed a technical for continuing to argue, then received a second technical from official Suyash Mehta after more passionately approaching and contesting the call. Two technical fouls for “unsportsmanlike” conduct result in ejection under NBA rules, so Brown was removed for the remainder of the game.
