Why Police Declined to Investigate Epstein and Mountbatten‑Windsor
The Metropolitan Police interviewed Virginia Giuffre three times — twice in 2015 and once in 2016 — after she said Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell had flown her to London in March 2001 and made her have sex with Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor at Ms. Maxwell’s home.
The force decided not to open a criminal investigation and, after reviews in 2019, 2021 and 2022 as new material emerged from U.S. prosecutions and civil cases, again chose not to investigate. In a May 4, 2015, letter, Ms. Giuffre’s lawyer, Paul G. Cassell, included a photograph showing Mr.
Mountbatten‑Windsor with his arm around Ms. Giuffre, which the letter said was developed on March 13, 2001, and a first‑person statement in which she said she had been “lent” to him and later paid approximately $15,000. Mr. Mountbatten‑Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
