In a report from People, Sen. Mitch McConnell checked himself into a hospital on Feb. 2, 2026 after experiencing "flu-like symptoms," his spokesperson said. The statement said his prognosis was "positive," that he sought treatment "in an abundance of caution," and that he is in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business.

McConnell's health has been closely watched for years. He contracted polio as a child, which left partial paralysis in his left leg, underwent triple bypass heart surgery in 2003, and has fallen at least five times between 2019 and 2025, sustaining injuries including a fractured shoulder, a concussion and a rib fracture.

He experienced two brief freezing episodes at press conferences in 2023 and was cleared by the U.S. Capitol physician to return to work.
