Why your biggest tech upgrade this year is a splash of color
Look at recent phone, headphone and wearable launches and a clear pattern appears: vibrant color, especially pink. Examples include the Sony WH-1000XM6 in Sand Pink, the Nothing Phone 4a and Headphone (a) in bubblegummy pink, the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic in Petal pink, and Apple’s iPhone 17e in soft pink and MacBook Neo in Blush.
Part of the shift comes from how people use devices: as extensions of themselves rather than just tools. Nothing’s design lead said adding pink gives users a way to reflect personality, and Sony’s senior marketing manager noted headphones have become accessories that should suit a range of listeners rather than only tech enthusiasts.
There are signs that buyers are responding. MacRumors has suggested the color MacBook Neo variants—Blush, Indigo and Citrus—are outselling Silver, and Oura has presented its Ring 4 Ceramic lineup as jewelry-like, emphasizing personal style. The move toward expressive hues shows manufacturers are treating color as a meaningful design choice, not just an afterthought.
